Couchiching First Nation is seeking a permanent full-time Healthy Babies Healthy Children worker. Job Position Overview:
The Healthy Baby Healthy Children worker position is responsible for providing recreational programming and training opportunities for Indigenous families and children ages 0-12 Within Couchiching First Nation. Reporting to the Health Director, this position will work with the Health and Recreation Staff in the development and implementation of programming that promotes mental, spiritual, emotional and physical wellbeing of families and encourages parental participation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Health and Recreation Staff to develop and implement programming that promotes healthy child development and engages parents.
- Provide parents and children with supervised recreational activities and educational training, fostering a supportive environment.
- Deliver culturally relevant education on prenatal care, child development, nutrition, and parenting skills, connecting families to local resources and services.
- Maintain a stock of emergency items and inventory of baby supplies, ensuring families have access to essential resources during times of need.
- Identify and address inappropriate behaviors, ensuring a safe and positive environment for all participants.
- Act as a liaison between families and health service providers, advocating for the needs of Indigenous children and families.
- Maintain accurate records of program participation and outcomes, understand and manage budgets effectively, and ensure compliance with Couchiching First Nation policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate good leadership skills, serving as a positive role model and motivational presence for families and children.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Early Childhood Education Diploma or experience in child development or related fields.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, families, or children, preferably in health or recreational services.
- Experience in developing and coordinating recreational activities for children and parents.
- Understanding of First Nations culture, traditions, and health beliefs is essential.
- Knowledge of Couchiching First Nation, its programs and local resources.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Proficiency using computers, Microsoft 365, and familiar with electronic health records.
- Valid First Aid and Adult/Child/Infant/ CPR certification (or ability to obtain).
- Ability to provide a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
- Valid G driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Availability to work flexible hours.
