The Crime Analyst is responsible for the orderly operation of general duties within their assigned Unit, as well as the efficient transfer of information and communications received by the Thunder Bay Police Service.

Working schedule: 5 on, 2 off schedule, consisting of 7-hour shifts between the hours of 0700 and 1700

Summary of essential job functions:
The Crime Analyst is responsible and accountable to the Detective Sergeant – General Investigations for the efficient and timely performance of the assigned duties and responsibilities. Specific responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to:
- Collects, collates, and analyzes crime data from various internal and external sources.
- Establishes and maintains crime offence and offender data bases.
- Applies analytical techniques to link individuals with criminal activity.
- Provides timelines, link analysis, event flow charts and formats data into regular, ad-hoc, dashboard reports.
- Ability to forecast emerging trends.
- Disseminates data and information to appropriate branches in a timely fashion.
- Completes complex & diverse tasks within given rules/limits and may include handling escalations from other employees.
- Acts as a liaison with other law enforcement agencies.
- Assists in transcribing and reviewing internal and external reports.
- All other duties as assigned within the core competencies.
Job Qualifications:
- Post secondary education with specialized training in gathering and analyzing data.
- Demonstrated analytical and research skills in open source and internal/external reports.
- Knowledge of policing services, regulations, processes as they apply to crimes, is an asset.
- A strong working knowledge of computer programs such as Excel, Word and other job-related software is essential.
- Must have interpersonal skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
- Required to work dayshift on a Monday to Friday schedule, 35 hours per week.
- Work is performed in a standard office environment with minimal adverse working conditions.
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Conditions could produce mild discomfort such as moderate noise.
- Regular need to give close attention, either hearing or seeing, to what is happening.
