Job Position Summary
Northern Peak HR is seeking a reliable, experienced and safety-focused Long Haul Truck Driver to join our client’s team. In this role, you will be responsible for transporting goods and materials efficiently across long distances, including interprovincial and cross-border routes. Key Duties
Long-haul truck drivers are responsible for transporting goods safely and efficiently over long distances while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. Typical duties include:
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, long combination vehicles and straight-body trucks over long distances, including interprovincial and cross-border routes.
- Plan trip, including routes, schedules, rest periods, and fuel stops, considering weather, road conditions, and delivery timelines.
- Complete pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspections, and maintain vehicle conditions.
- Ensure cargo is properly loaded, secured, and protected following all safety and hazardous materials regulations.
- Maintain accurate records, including logbooks, bills of lading, run sheets, fuel receipts, hours of service, cargo details, and mileage.
- Communicate with dispatchers, customers, and border officials to coordinate deliveries and resolve issues.
- Perform minor vehicle maintenance such as cleaning, lubrication, topping up fluids, and reporting mechanical issues promptly for repair.
- Assist in the loading and offloading truck’s cargo when required, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
- Follow all traffic laws, safety protocols, and company policies at all times.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Valid AZ driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable long-haul or commercial driving experience.
- Proven ability to operate tractor-trailers, long combination vehicles, and related equipment safely and efficiently.
- Strong understanding of commercial driving regulations, hours-of-service requirements, and transportation safety protocols.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Physically capable of meeting job demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing into/out of vehicles, and working flexible hours, weekends, and overnight shifts as needed.
- Basic mechanical knowledge to perform pre-trip inspections, minor maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience handling and securing cargo, including hazardous materials (considered an asset).
- Professional, reliable, and safety-focused work ethic.
