Job Summary:

SYNERGY NORTH is hiring a full-time, permanent Utility Underground Locator in Thunder Bay, who takes pride in safety, accuracy, and service. Every locate that you complete helps prevent injuries, outages, and damage to the critical underground infrastructure our communities rely on.

Under the direct supervision of the Locates and Metering Supervisor, the Utility Underground Locator will acquire, maintain, and provide accurate information regarding underground infrastructure to support safe excavation and underground work within our service area. Moreover, you will be provided with the training, tools, and equipment to succeed in this role.

Asset Management & Engineering Division – Inside Staff Collective Agreement
Group IV: $21.3842 to $30.5488/hour (May 1, 2025 rates)

What you will do:
  • Complete field locates and clearances for underground infrastructure within required accuracy and response times.
  • Additionally, accurately complete and submit required documentation.
  • Produce and maintain digital mapping records of the utility’s infrastructure.
  • Organize your day, manage your tickets, and meet deadlines while working independently in the field.
  • Support preliminary accident investigations, including documentation and reporting, as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring:
  • Firstly, A safety-first mindset, with a genuine commitment to customer service, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work respectfully with crews, contractors, and the public.
  • Willingness to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines in the field.
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s Licence, with a strong, safe driving record.
  • Comfort using computers and MS Office to complete digital documentation and stay organized.
  • Availability for standby and overtime when required.
  • Furthermore, ability to successfully complete a Police Information Check and Drug and Alcohol Testing.
  • Equally important, Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Bonus if you have a post-secondary education in related fields
  • Bonus if you have utility locating or utility field experience, damage prevention training, or map and drafting skills such as AutoCAD or GIS.
