Job Summary

SYNERGY NORTH is seeking a motivated electrical engineering student to join our team for an Asset Management & Engineering Summer Opportunity in 2026. In this dynamic role, you will gain hands-on experience supporting critical electrical utility infrastructure projects in Thunder Bay. Moreover, this Asset Management & Engineering Summer Opportunity allows you to work independently on projects tailored to your skill level while collaborating with experienced Engineers and Engineering Technologists. Furthermore, you will develop practical skills in AutoCAD drafting, asset data collection, surveying, and GIS mapping. In addition, you will assist with maintaining engineering documentation and support various day-to-day activities. Moreover, this Asset Management & Engineering Summer Opportunity provides invaluable real-world experience in power systems and electrical distribution. As a result, you will build a strong foundation for your engineering career while contributing to the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to our communities.

Job Duties:
  • Carryout independent projects (note that the size and complexity will depend on the skill, knowledge, and initiative of the student).
  • Assist Engineers and Engineering Technologists with day-to-day activities and projects.
  • Update existing and prepare new AutoCAD drawings for various projects.
  • Assist in asset data collection (including surveying activities) and GIS input related tasks.
  • Assist in maintaining document storage and updating (including electrical drawings, manuals, standards, etc.).
  • Lastly, perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in a post-secondary Electrical Engineering Program (College diploma or University degree) and returning as a full-time student in the fall of 2026.
  • Knowledge and Experience of Windows and Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience with computerized drafting (i.e., AutoCAD or equivalent).
  • Must be self-motivated and a quick learner.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a Utility or Industrial environment.
  • Similarly, experience in reading electrical schematics.
  • GIS/GPS Mapping and Surveying experience.
  • Furthermore, completion of Power Systems course (or equivalent).
Conditions of Employment
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with an excellent driving record and ability to pass the driver’s proficiency test (as performed by a third party).
  • Must successfully pass Drug & Alcohol Testing and Police Information Check
