
Job Overview
The Social Worker provides clinical counselling, crisis intervention, and case management services to Marten Falls First Nation members. This role requires a strong clinical background and the ability to work independently in a remote community setting.
Furthermore, the Social Worker supports individuals, youth, and families experiencing mental health challenges, trauma, addictions, family conflict, grief, and other social concerns. Services must be delivered in a culturally respectful and community-centred manner.
Moreover, this is a full-time position operating on a rotational schedule of two (2) consecutive weeks in Ogoki Post, followed by two (2) consecutive weeks working at the Thunder Bay Office.
Reports To
The Social Worker reports to and is under the direct supervision of the Director of Band Representatives.
Job Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Clinical Assessment and Counselling
- Firstly, conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments.
- Develop individualized treatment and support plans.
- Provide short-term and ongoing counselling using evidence-based approaches (CBT, trauma-informed care, solution-focused therapy, etc.).
- Provide crisis intervention and safety planning.
- Support clients experiencing mental health concerns, substance use, grief, trauma, or family conflict.
- Evaluate client progress and adjust treatment plans as required.
Case Management and Support
- In addition, maintain an active caseload and structured case management system.
- Conduct intake, documentation, follow-up, and case closure.
- Refer clients to specialized services when required.
- Assist clients in navigating systems such as health care, child welfare, justice, housing, and income support.
- Participate in case conferences and interdisciplinary meetings.
Cultural and Community Integration
- Also, deliver services in a culturally grounded and respectful manner.
- Incorporate Marten Falls traditions, values, and teachings into practice when appropriate.
- Work alongside Elders and Knowledge Keepers to support holistic healing.
- Support community-based wellness initiatives and prevention programming.
Advocacy and System Navigation
- Equally important, advocate on behalf of band members with hospitals, schools, child welfare agencies, courts, and other external systems.
- Support clients in understanding their rights and responsibilities.
- Assist with forms, documentation, and service access applications.
Documentation and Professional Standards
- Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records.
- Similarly, prepare reports and summaries as required by management.
- Likewise, ensure compliance with privacy legislation and Marten Falls policies.
- Moreover, adhere to the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers Code of Ethics
Qualifications
Education and Registration
- Master of Social Work (MSW) preferred.
- Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) considered with significant clinical experience.
- Generally, your Registered Social Worker (RSW) is in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
Experience
- Additionally, minimum three (3) years clinical counselling experience.
- Likewise, experience working with Indigenous communities required.
- Finally, experience in crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, and mental health services.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong clinical assessment and counselling skills.
- Knowledge of social determinants of health affecting Indigenous communities.
- Ability to work independently in a remote community.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Requirements
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Also, Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
Working Schedule and Travel
- Rotational schedule: Two (2) consecutive weeks in Ogoki Post (fly-in community), followed by two (2) consecutive weeks working at the Thunder Bay Office.
- Travel to and from Ogoki Post required (fly-in community).
- Additionally, some evening or weekend work may be required based on community needs.
Compensation
Salary Range: $70,000 – $80,000 annually, based on education and experience.
