Couchiching First Nation is seeking a compassionate and experienced Family Advocate Worker to supports families in navigating complex systems. The position is responsible for providing a wide range of child & family support, advocacy, liaison with courts and child and family agencies, and co-development of care plans, which includes but is not limited to providing Child and Family Services and referrals to community support services. The Family Advocate provides support to families and children who are involved with or at risk of being involved with child and family services and providing support compatible with the needs/beliefs of the community.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Firstly, act as a main point of contact between members, families, leadership, and child and family service agencies.
  • Support intake, assessment, case planning, follow-up, and file closure processes.
  • Advocate for children, youth, and families while helping them access appropriate services, supports, and resources.
  • Support Customary Care, Kinship Care, Alternative Care, and children-in-care planning.
  • Help maintain meaningful family, cultural, and community connections for children and families.
  • Attend meetings, case conferences, and court-related matters as required.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records, case notes, reports, and statistical information.
  • Work collaboratively with families, caregivers, service providers, agencies, co-workers, and community partners.
  • Participate in training, community events, and other program-related activities as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • In addition, a valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License and clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Finally, ability to speak or willingness to learn Ojibway is considered an asset.
