Job Summary:
SYNERGY NORTH is seeking a motivated student to join our Asset Management & Engineering team as a Locates Summer Student for 2026. In this hands-on role, you will support our Asset Engineering Locates operations in Thunder Bay. Moreover, as part of the Asset Engineering Locates team, you will assist with underground cable location mapping, asset data collection, and GIS input tasks. This position offers valuable experience in the electrical utility sector. Furthermore, you will work alongside experienced Locator/Drafters and Technical associates on real-world projects. In addition, you will gain practical knowledge of electrical infrastructure, engineering documentation, and utility operations. This summer opportunity provides an excellent foundation for students pursuing careers in electrical or civil engineering while contributing to the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to our communities.

HOURLY RATE: $22.27

Job Duties:
- Firstly, assist Locator/Drafters and Technical associates in day-to-day activities and projects.
- Asset data collection and GIS input related tasks.
- In addition, perform underground cable location mapping and related tasks.
- Assist in maintaining document storage and updating (including electrical drawings, manuals,
standards, etc.). - Finally, perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a post-secondary Engineering Program (diploma) preferably in Electrical or Civil and returning as a full-time student in the fall of 2026.
- Knowledge and Experience of Windows and Microsoft Office software.
- Experience with computerized drafting (i.e., AutoCAD or equivalent).
- Knowledge of GIS mapping software.
- Must be self-motivated and a quick learner.
- Able to work independently and in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience reading electrical schematics.
- Similarly, experience in a Utility or Industrial environment.
Conditions of Employment
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with an excellent driving record and ability to pass the driver’s proficiency test (as performed by a third party).
- Must successfully pass Drug & Alcohol Testing and Police Information Check
