Business Development Officer

Job Category: The Sweet North
Job Type: Contract
Job Location: Thunder Bay
The Sweet North advertising on Northern Peak HR job board for Business Development officer in Thunder Bay.

For eight weeks this summer, as our Business Development Officer, you won’t just learn how a small business runs, you’ll help build a new part of one. The Sweet North, Thunder Bay’s beloved bakery and café known for its scratch-made pretzels, baked goods, and warm community presence, is launching its first wholesale division. We’re looking for a driven, organized Business Development Officer to help bring The Sweet North to retail shelves across the region, someone who wants to make real decisions this summer, not just take notes.

Sales & Client Relationships
  • Firstly, identify and meet with potential retail clients to establish The Sweet North’s first wholesale customer base
  • Subsequently, build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with new wholesale partners
Operations & Brand Standards
  • Similarly, set up an invoicing system to support wholesale orders
  • Likewise, research and develop packaging that meets wholesale and retail requirements
  • Train fellow team members so service and quality stay consistent with The Sweet North’s vision and strategic plan as the business grows
Strategy & Insight
  • Conduct market research to identify new areas of growth and opportunity
  • Lastly, work closely with the Marketing and Sales Manager to help shape strategy
  • Equally important, a university or college student studying Business Management, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Overall, comfortable juggling multiple priorities, such as client meetings, paperwork, and research, sometimes all in the same day
  • A confident communicator who isn’t afraid to walk into a new business and start a conversation
  • Organized and self-directed, energized by building something new rather than just maintaining what’s already there
What You Will Gain?

You’ll get hands-on experience across sales, operations, marketing, and strategy that most don’t see until years into their career. You’ll work directly with ownership, watch your ideas get put into action, and walk away with a real project you helped create from the ground up.

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  • Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job
  • Do not need to be a student returning in the fall
