
Job Overview
The Caseworker is responsible for providing case management and direct support services to children, youth, and families of Marten Falls First Nation. Specifically, the role focuses on promoting child safety, strengthening families, and ensuring culturally appropriate service delivery.
The Caseworker also works closely with community members, leadership, external service providers, and agencies to ensure families receive coordinated and effective support.
Moreover, this is a full-time position operating on a rotational schedule of two (2) consecutive weeks in Ogoki Post, followed by two (2) consecutive weeks working at the Thunder Bay Office.
Reports To
The Caseworker reports to and is under the direct supervision of the Director of Band Rep.
Job Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Case Management and Assessment
- Firstly, conduct intake interviews to assess the needs and risks of children, youth, and families.
- Subsequently, develop individualized case plans in collaboration with clients.
- Maintain an assigned caseload and monitor progress regularly.
- Conduct home visits and community visits as required.
- Review and update case plans based on changing needs.
- Close files appropriately when services are completed..
Advocacy and Liaison
- Advocate on behalf of clients with external agencies, service providers, and community partners.
- Participate in case conferences and service coordination meetings.
- Similarly, work collaboratively with health, education, and social services departments.
- Support families in understanding their rights and responsibilities within child welfare systems.
Documentation and Reporting
- Equally important, maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date case notes.
- Prepare reports, summaries, and documentation as required.
- Caseworker ensures all records are confidential and handled according to MFFN policies.
- Track service delivery outcomes and program statistics.
Community and Cultural Engagement
- Deliver services in a culturally respectful and appropriate manner.
- Incorporate Marten Falls traditions and values into service delivery.
- Work with Elders and Knowledge Keepers when appropriate.
- Participate in community meetings and events to support service awareness.
Program and Support
- Furthermore, assist with the development and implementation of family support programs.
- In addition, participate in training and professional development.
- Likewise, provide on-call or emergency support as required.
- Finally, perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Registration
- Firstly, a diploma or Degree in Social Work, Social Services, Child & Youth Care, or a related field.
- Moreover, a combination of education and related experience may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in case management or social services.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities preferred.
- Experience working with children and families is considered an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of child welfare practices and family support services.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain organized records.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical practice.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case documentation systems.
Requirements
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License.
- Access to a reliable and insured vehicle.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
Working Schedule and Travel
- Rotational schedule: Two (2) consecutive weeks in Ogoki Post (fly-in community), followed by two (2) consecutive weeks working at the Thunder Bay Office.
- Travel to and from Ogoki Post required (fly-in community).
- Additionally, some evening or weekend work may be required based on community needs.
Compensation
Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000 annually, based on education and experience.
