Hours:           8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., 35 hrs/week

Summary

Under the direction of the Public Works Field Supervisor, The Community Maintenance Worker shall be committed to the overall objectives of Lac Seul First Nation Public Works department. The Community Maintenance Worker will be responsible for the general upkeep of the and maintenance of community facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. This role ensures a safe, clean, and functional environment for the Lac Seul First Nation community while supporting the overall well-being of residents.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s license – Class G is a definite asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical skills.
  • Must have knowledge of Basic Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical & Mechanical.
  • Strong knowledge of Assets within the community.
  • Basic understanding of buildings systems, including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Familiarity with landscaping and groundskeeping techniques.
  • Regularly required to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 Lbs).
  • Works both indoors and outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
  • Knowledge in workplace health and safety conditions 4
  • Dependable and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Adaptability and willingness to perform tasks in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be available to respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours.
  • A clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening and clean Driver’s Abstract.
Accountabilities
  • Firstly, perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on community buildings and facilities, including plumbing, electrical, and structural systems.
  • In addition, conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential maintenance issues.
  • For example, assist with painting, carpentry, and other tasks to maintain the appearance and functionality of community spaces.
  • Moreover, maintain community grounds through tasks such as lawn mowing, tree trimming, snow removal, and debris cleanup.
  • Similarly, ensure the upkeep of outdoor recreational areas, including playgrounds, sports fields, and walking paths.
  • Furthermore, monitor and address safety hazards on community property.
  • Additionally, assist with the maintenance and repair of roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems.
  • As needed, operate and maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment necessary for public works projects.
  • Likewise, collaborate with the Public Works teams on special projects and community events.
  • In the event of emergencies, respond promptly to urgent maintenance requests to minimize disruptions.
  • Also, participate in the implementation of emergency response plans related to infrastructure and facilities.
  • Meanwhile, work closely with community members to address concerns and requests related to maintenance.
  • In the same vein, provide guidance on the proper use and care of community facilities and equipment.
  • Finally, support community events by ensuring facilities and grounds are prepared and safe.
