Couchiching First Nation is seeking a NNADAP Mental Health & Addictions Worker to join our Health team. Reporting to the Health Manager, this role is responsible for prevention, promotion, treatment, and harm reduction related to mental health, substance use, and alcohol-related situations. This role provides ongoing support while working collaboratively with individuals to develop personalized treatment plans, facilitate access to resources, and promote recovery and well-being.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to play a key role in supporting and empowering individuals to move toward independence.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Post secondary degree or diploma in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mental health and addictions field.
  • Experience providing counseling to individuals and families addressing various mental health and
    addiction challenges.
  • Strong understanding of mental health and addiction treatment models and best practices.
  • Comprehensive understanding of trauma-informed care principles and practices.
  • Ability to manage crises and post-crises situations effectively.
  • Knowledge of Anishinaabe, culture, traditions and beliefs is essential.
  • Further, ability to speak Ojibway or a willingness to learn the language is considered an asset.
  • Commitment to maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with computers and able to learn new software.
  • Valid G driver’s license, reliable transportation and willingness to travel as needed.
  • Additionally, ability to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Finally, willingness to work flexible hours.
