Job position overview:

The Property & Stores Clerk is responsible for the orderly operation of general duties within their assigned Unit, as well as the efficient transfer of information and communications received by the Thunder Bay Police Service.

Pay scale: Level 6 to 9, $63,880.30 to $74,800.41
Competition # 45-2025
Working Hours: 5 on, 2 off schedule, consisting of 7-hour shifts between 0700-1700

Summary of Essential Job Functions:

The Property & Stores Clerk is responsible and accountable to the Staff Sergeant – Risk Management for the efficient and timely performance of the assigned duties and responsibilities. Specific responsibilities shall include but not be limited to:

  • Controls, documents, processes, and disposes of exhibits and found property.
  • Maintains records related to exhibits, found property, inventory and firearms.
  • Liaises with Firearms Verifiers and Administrative Detective regarding the status of seized weapons and disposal of firearms, including legislated reporting information for all firearms, as directed.
  • Prepares disposable items for auction or destruction in accordance with retention procedures.
  • Answers telephone and counter inquiries on Property and Stores issues.
  • Interacts with the public by phone or in person regarding property release and pick-up.
  • Performs the duties of shipper and/or receiver for the TBPS.
  • Responsible to maintain adequate inventory of clothing, equipment, and supplies.
  • Issues clothing and equipment to members.
  • Additionally, issues office supplies and stationery to members.
  • Drive vehicle to delivery and/or pick up items at commercial and residential addresses.
  • Outfits members with TBPS clothing and equipment and tracks issued items.
  • All other duties as assigned within the core competencies.
Qualifications:
  • Secondary School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in stockroom and/or inventory control and related clerical duties is an asset.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, including the ability to address issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and the ability to exercise good judgment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a knowledge of English grammar, structure, and spelling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers with a proficiency in Microsoft Windows.
  • Must successfully meet minimum standards for critical testing assigned to this position (keyboard, decision making, data entry and spelling)
  • Also, must be physically able to load, unload and stockpile inventory.
  • Lastly, must possess a valid driver’s licence with clean driving record.
Working Conditions:
  • Required to work a Monday to Friday shift schedule consisting of a 40-hour work week, 8-hour shifts, to meet operational requirements of the unit.
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment with minimal adverse working conditions.
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area, however at times maybe required to work outside such as but not limited to property cage, disposal areas, and on deliveries. Conditions could produce mild discomfort such as moderate noise.
