Couchiching First Nation is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Fire Chief to join our volunteer fire department and play a vital role in protecting lives, property, and environment within our community. As a Volunteer Fire Chief, you will be an integral part of a team and respond to a variety of emergency situations. This is a challenging yet incredibly rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of your fellow community members.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly and safely to emergency calls as dispatched.
- Participate in regular training sessions to develop and maintain essential firefighting, rescue, and medical skills.
- Maintain fire apparatus, equipment, and station facilities in a state of readiness.
- Work effectively as part of a team.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.
- Also, represent Couchiching First Nation’s fire department with professionalism and respect.
- Participate in community safety initiatives as well as fire prevention activities.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Couchiching First Nation, its programs and local resources
- Individuals who are deeply committed to the safety and well-being of Couchiching First Nation.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid G level driver’s license is an asset
- Additionally, valid First aid/CPR certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Physically fit and able to meet the demanding physical requirements of firefighting.
- Willingness and ability to attend regular training sessions.
- Ability to respond to emergency calls at any time of day or night.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Lastly, respect for Indigenous culture and traditions.
