Couchiching Child & Family Care is seeking a dedicated as well as culturally grounded individual for the full time, permanent position of Alternative Care Coordinator/Continuing Care Youth Support (ACC/CCYS) Worker. This vital role involves recruiting and supporting a range of care homes, including regular, emergency, and specialized placements, while also providing transitional support services for youth aged 18 to 21 as they move toward independence under a Continuing Care Youth Support Agreement.
Working under the supervision of the Child & Family Care Program Supervisor, the ACC/CCYS Worker plays a key role in case management, caregiver support, youth advocacy, and service coordination. The ideal candidate will have experience in culturally-informed care, strong community engagement skills, and a commitment to upholding the values of Couchiching First Nation. This position ensures the delivery of consistent, high-quality support services that honor the unique needs and traditions of the community.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Education and Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Native Child & Family Services Worker or Social Service Worker Diploma from an accredited college or a combination of related skills, education and experience;
- Knowledge of Customary Care and the philosophy of service delivery within the context of Couchiching First Nation Customs and Traditions, Weechi It Te Win Family Services and the Treaty #3 Child Care Law (Abinoojii Inakonigewin);
- Knowledge of Part IV of the Child, Youth & Family Services Act and its application to service provision within Couchiching First Nation;
Professional Experience and Knowledge
- Knowledge and experience in case management and the provision of counselling, supervision and support services for children placed into an alternative care home;
- Knowledge of safety and risk assessments, child abuse standards, child welfare legislations and regulations;
- Knowledge of Systems Theory, Human Behavior, Child Development and their application in the assessment of strengths and needs of children, youth and families of Couchiching First Nation;
- Knowledge of the administrative structure and operations of Weechi It Te Win Family Services including their service delivery model, policies, procedures and guidelines;
Cultural Competency and Community Engagement
- Knowledge and experience, or willingness to learn, the Anishinaabe Culture, Traditions and issues affecting members of Couchiching First Nation;
- Strong commitment to help all Couchiching Band members, children, youth and families by providing support services in ways that respect Couchiching First Nation Cultural and Spiritual practices.
- Commitment to provide support services in the Anishinaabe context of extended family and community involvement;
- Experience in the development, organization and delivery of community presentations, workshops and programs;
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work as an integral part of the Child & Family Care Program team;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to take direction and work within the philosophy, policies, procedures and guidelines of Couchiching First Nation;
- Ability to establish and maintain purposeful relationships with staff, management, children, youth, their families and Caregivers;
Additional
- Commitment to ensure the highest level of confidentiality at all times as per the Personal Information Privacy Act;
- Able to travel and work overtime when required;
- Ability to speak Ojibway or a willingness to learn the language is considered an asset;
- Current First Aid and CPR certification or a willingness to obtain the same;
- Must provide a Criminal Vulnerable Sector Check;
- Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License – Class “G”
- Also, must be able to submit a current driver’s ab
