Parenting Across the Lifecycle Training Coordinator

Parenting Across the Lifecycle Training Coordinator

The Parenting Across the Life Cycle Training Coordinator will develop and implement the training programs for the Parenting Support Workers, as well as assist with special projects in the Community Development Portfolio. The program will support Indigenous women in a culturally rooted, holistic way, to assist women in navigating through the complex systems encountered when experiencing violence and involvement in child welfare matters.

The coordinator will develop training/workshops and collect resource materials, including good practices in CAS and VAW, as well as communication materials to support the Parenting Support Workers with their responsibilities in advocating for Indigenous Women and their families. This program will focus on the development and training of the PAL Parenting Support Workers on the parenting program, spanning the lifecycle from infant to child to youth and beyond.

ONWA reclaims and restores the role of Indigenous women as mothers, recognizing their inherent right to parent their children. In addition, the organization reinforces that the original bond between an Indigenous mother and her child must remain the priority in the child welfare and wellness systems. Furthermore, ONWA supports and nurtures Indigenous women’s ability to mother by providing programs that offer culturally appropriate early intervention, prevention, healing services, and safety planning.

This program will address the needs of families with parenting across the life cycle and will work collaboratively with the other BFFV positions to meet the needs and address the gaps. The Parenting Program Training Coordinator will support a holistic approach, ensuring Indigenous women and their families are in the driver’s seat, in control, and are meaningfully engaged to use their voices to co-develop a parenting program that encompasses parenting skills from infant care to child, youth and beyond.
