Job Description
The Economic Development Officer shall be responsible for planning, managing and providing oversight for the activities and operation of Ojibway’s of Onigaming First Nations Economic Development programs and initiatives for business retention, promotion, marketing and expansion.
Department: Administration
Schedule: 35 hours per week

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead as well as coordinate First Nations Economic Development initiatives, ensuring alignment with the community’s vision and long-term sustainability.
- Build and maintain relationships with community members, businesses, and stakeholders to foster economic growth and identify funding opportunities.
- Provide recommendations to leadership on enhancing economic opportunities and oversee training programs in business management and entrepreneurship.
- Develop and implement strategies for business support, job creation, and resource management.
- Additionally, prepare reports on economic activities, advocate for the community’s economic interests, and collaborate with external agencies to maximize resources.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of negotiation, relevant laws, and economic development policies.
- Excellent networking and partnership-building skills, with the ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and proficiency in Microsoft 365.
- Ability to speak Ojibway is an asset, but not mandatory. Must have a strong understanding of and respect for the Ojibway culture, traditions, practices, and lifestyle of Onigaming.
Qualifications
- Valid G-level driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and a successful completed criminal reference check.
- Preferred degree in economics, business administration, community development, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in economic development, tourism, or marketing, focusing on attracting retail and sales-driven businesses.
