Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Owner/ Lead Consultant, the Health & Safety Specialist will develop programming to ensure clients maintain regulatory compliance and will provide support on all Health & Safety initiatives. The Health & Safety Specialist will lead the systems management of certification, auditing, training and development processes.

Northern Peak HR Consulting is hiring a Health & Safety Specialist in Thunder Bay, Ontario, to support clients with workplace health and safety programs, regulatory compliance, training, inspections, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives. This Health & Safety Specialist position involves developing health and safety policies and programs, conducting field visits and site inspections, coordinating employee training, supporting incident investigations and hazard identification, maintaining certification and training records, and assisting clients with disability management and return-to-work programs. Candidates with at least two years of Health & Safety experience, ideally in industrial sectors such as forestry, mining or manufacturing, relevant post-secondary education, Joint Health & Safety Committee certification, strong organizational skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office are encouraged to apply. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Firstly, develop and provide guidance on all Health & Safety policies and programs.
  • In addition, conduct field visits and site inspections.
  • Coordinate and conduct employee training, including new hire orientation and Health Safety regulations.
  • Create and implement Health & Safety Continuous Improvement plans for clients.
  • Support disability claims management and Early Return to Work programs.
  • Similarly, participate in and support inspection and audit processes ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in and support the hazard identification process and incident investigations.
  • Support any health & safety initiatives or certification programs.
  • Plan, schedule and maintain records of all training programs and initiatives.
  • Support client health and safety committees (i.e. meeting minutes, inspection documentation, etc.).
  • Also, other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum two years of Health & Safety experience, ideally in an industrial setting (forestry, mining, manufacturing, etc.).
  • Completed post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant or related field (i.e. Business, Human Resources, Forestry, Kinesiology, Occupational and Public Health).
  • Joint Health & Safety Committee certification.
  • Ability to support multiple clients at the same time
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience working with an HS Management System databases an asset.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy, detail and confidentiality.
  • Moreover, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, self starter, initiative required to act under minimal supervision.
  • Strong planning skills and highly organized.
  • Equally important, excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Regular work attendance is imperative and the ability to work flexible hours as required.
  • Lastly, a valid drivers license and use of personal vehicle may be required at times.
