Job Summary:
Lac Seul First Nation is seeking one full-time Cook for our new ten (10) unit Independent Living Facility. Under the direction of the ILF Manager, the Independent Living Facility Cook will be responsible for preparing and serving meals to the residents of the ILF taking into consideration dietary restrictions and modifications, and proper food handling guidelines. The cook will also be responsible for monitoring inventory and maintaining a clean and sanitary working environment. The Independent Living Facility Cook will represent Lac Seul First Nation and embrace the vision to improve living conditions for Elders, seniors, people living with a disability, and First Nations people while encouraging and reinforcing traditional practices and cultural beliefs. The incumbent will ensure the Cook position is represented in a professional, responsible, and respectful way at all times.

Location: Frenchman’s Head, Lac Seul, ON.
Term: Full-time
Salary: Wages start at $25.91/hour based on qualifications and experience.
Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 35 hours per week.
Closing: Open Until Filled.

Key Responsibilities are (but not limited to):
- Firstly, inspect kitchen and food service areas.
- Also, prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods as instructed by the ILF Manager and ILF Procedures.
- In addition, clean kitchen and work areas.
- Plan menus, determine the size of food portions, estimate food requirements, and cost, and monitor supplies.
- Equally important, adhere to relevant food handling procedures, health and safety procedures, and policies professionally.
- Assist the ILF Manager and/or Director of Home & Community Card with identifying areas of improvement for policy and procedures of the ILF Kitchen.
- Prepare dishes for residents with dietary restrictions, modifications, and/or allergies.
- Reporting to ILF Manager with problems.
- Documenting temperatures of the cooler and freezer.
- Firstly, unpack dry goods into dry storage and the cooler, ensuring proper stock rotation.
- Moreover, contribute to providing a safe and stable environment for all residents.
- Lastly, other duties as assigned by the ILF Manager and/or designate.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Post Secondary Culinary Certificate would be considered an asset.
- Ability to create meals that would appeal to First Nations Elders.
- WHMIS and Health and Safety Training or willingness to obtain.
- First Aid and CPR Certification or willingness to obtain.
- Food Handling Certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Strong planning and time management skills.
- Ability to assume responsibility and meet deadlines.
- High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
- Experience working in and with the First Nations community.
- Two (2) Years of kitchen experience in a congregate/assisted living setting would be considered an asset.
- May be required to work some evenings and weekends as required by operational needs.
